Dutch Oven Recipes

Remember good Dutch oven food, just like fine dining, is all about quality. Keep this in mind when creating or preparing your own outdoor Dutch oven recipes. Always remember 'You get out of your Dutch oven what you put into it'. In other words, if you want your food to be the best it can be, then be sure to use the best ingredients when preparing it. (If a recipe calls for butter, use butter, not margarine).

Check the Dutch oven lid to make sure it fits tight. It should lie flush with the lip of the oven all the way around. This is to ensure that the steam created inside the oven does not escape. Make sure the lid handle is a loop attached to the lid on both ends with a hollow center so that it can be easily hooked by a lid lifter. Avoid ovens that have a molded solid tab on the lid for a handle because they are hard to lift and manage when they are loaded with coals on top.

In the United States, liquid measurement is not only used for liquids such as water and milk, it is also used when measuring other ingredients such as flour, sugar, shortening, butter, and spices.

Dry measurements are not typically used in US recipes; dry measurements are used mainly for measuring fresh produce (e.g. berries are sold by the quart, apples by the bushel, or peck). Do not confuse dry measure with liquid measure, because they are not the same.

A few years ago this wonderful way of outdoor cooking had almost died out, but thanks to a few devotees who keep it alive, it now flourishes.

Why is it such a great way of cooking? Because you can make anything in a Dutch! Scrumptious roast meats, delightful vegetarian dishes, delectable hors d'oeuvre, aromatic breads and sinful deserts.

Dutch ovens are perfect for any type of outdoor activity. But you don't have to go on an outdoor trip to enjoy Dutch oven cooking. You can cook right in your own backyard. Instead of barbecuing, do it in a Dutch! Fire up the briquettes and start cooking away. Your guests will beg to be invited back.

Dutch Oven cooking is quickly becoming the premier way to cook outdoors. Nothing in outdoor cooking compares to the versatility, performance, and durability of a Dutch oven.

Spray your Ultimate Dutch Oven with non-stick vegetable spray; place the sliced apples into the bottom of the Ultimate Dutch Oven. Mix together granulated sugar, 4 teaspoons of flour, salt and cinnamon. Sprinkle the sugar/cinnamon mixture over the apples in the Ultimate Dutch Oven. Then mix together the rest of the flour, oats and brown sugar. Sprinkle the flour/oats mixture over the apples in the Ultimate Dutch Oven. Melt the butter in the lid to your Ultimate Dutch Oven over low heat on your Camp Chef stove (or use 8 or 9 briquettes for low heat). When the butter is melted pour over the top of the flour/oats mixture.
